Sponsored by the Nevada Mining Association, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and the Mine Safety and Health Administration, the practical workshop on strategies and technologies to reduce miners’ exposure to diesel particulate matter and gas will be held from January 24 to 27.
The agenda includes a review of current regulations by MSHA and a presentation from NIOSH DPM expert Dr Aleksandar Bugarski on an integrated approach to controlling exposure of underground miners to diesel particulate matter and gases.
Underground mining diesel engines will then be addressed with a presentation from MSHA on engine emissions and criteria for selection of engines for underground mining and then Caterpillar will present on large engine technologies for Tier 3 and 4.
Maintenance will be explored with a presentation from Arch Coal’s Steve Forbush on engine maintenance programs for underground mines.
To finish off the day biodiesel and fuels will be under scrutiny with presentations from NIOSH and Arch Coal.
